Grupo BASF solutions for a global rehabilitation

BASF presents the project of the Brunckviertel district (Ludwigshafen, Germany), one of the pioneering projects in Europe in the area of urban remodelling and energetic rehabilitation.

The project will be explained from the urban and energetic point of view and specific solutions will be expounded by means of applying different Grupo BASF materials.

The communication will include actuations both in buildings envelope and structure:

  • Thermal and acoustic isolation in façades and roofs.
  • Structural support by means of mortar and compounds of carbon fibre.
  • Foundation’s rehabilitation with self-compacting concrete.

How waterproof covers with lquid membranes and synthetic membranes of PVC and TPO, which have too reflective capacity of solar radiation, achieving the reduction of refrigerating energy consumption.

The CTE, the European regulation on reducing emissions, and the social demand for sustainable and energetic efficient buildings generate the need to rely on materials that provide solutions and reduce building energetic demand.

Having in mind a low-consumption model, the use of sandwich panel as a solution for light roof provides thermal insulation, design, speed and security, maximizing the energy savings in any type of building.

Reducing CO2 emissions is one of the priorities of the Thermochip sandwich panel, from its production process to its further application, becoming a key element in a new economy of low emissions and the most energetic efficient option both actively and passively.

Optimizing energetic efficiency in building rehabilitation through home automation and building automation

Usually, facilities don’t have a higher automation because of the need of reducing costs in installed equipment, without bearing in mind that the cost of energy waste is often higher than this saving. Another reason is the ignarance of solutions, clear arguments for support its selling and the fear of an automation installation complexity. And in the case of climate, usually we find buildings/houses without integration between climate system and lighting control system.

Regulatory aspects about the installation of building control solutions

  • Only installing a lighting or climate control system in a building, we can get a saving that improves the energy category of the building. The European rule EN 15232 establishes methods to calculate this potential energy saving.
  • CTE establishes lighting control system requirements, like luminary control in transit zones or in zones where is possible to use solar light.

Energy saving solutions in housing and building rehabilitation


  • Climate or lighting control solution offers, both wired (communication bus or traditional cabling) and unwired (radio frequency) technologies, the possibility to get energy saving solutions in housing and building rehabilitation.
  • The KNX automation allows an advanced solution, as climate and lighting integration. Through a KNX installation we can control a manager system, climate system parameters (temperature set point, working modes, limits in temperature set point, etc.), lighting, control parameters (timers, on and off forcing, consumption, lamps workSing hours, lighting control, etc.) and integrate it with other systems, as access control.

Energy² - saving and generating energy in the rehabilitation

The use of latest technologies of SCHÜCO window frame systems in the rehabilitation sector represents a huge potential for energy savings, contributing greatly to global energy saving and climate protection.

"Energy efficiency in rehabilitation. An strategic need"

The building sector development in the coming years pass largely by the rehabilitation of the existing building stock, with more than 25 million homes across Spain. This action not only wants better habitability and improvement characteristics of its envelope, but must consider a substantial improvement of thermal systems that meet their demands for heating, cooling and hot water, in order to obtain the optimum reduction of energy consumption and hence environmental impact. This paper will focus on the specific design criteria for selecting the best system to take heat as well as new highly efficient technological solutions, such as the microgeneration, which facilitate the achievement of this searched efficiency.

Industrial Electrical Engineer, has developed his professional career in various engineering and energy companies since 1983, taking responsibility for the design, construction and operation of heating and energy. Belonging to Fenosa Gas Natural during more than twenty years, has developed energy projects and implementation of new technologies in industry and buildings, especially by the energy management of HVAC systems and industrial processes. Currently carrying out advice to prescribers and developers on energy solutions in buildings, with particular attention to the integration of gas natural to renewable energy and highly efficient systems and cogeneration.

Rehabilitation of facades with external thermal insulation systems and decorative moulds

Sto wants to present, for this occasion, its isolation solutions for the rehabilitation of facades incorporating decorative architectural elements. Beyond pure functionality and technical quality of its insulation systems, Sto has always look at the aesthetic design of buildings, respecting the original design, giving an added value and with innovative proposals.
To solve energy efficiency and deteriorated facades for historic and listed buildings it is complicated. Normally, if we want to preserve the original facade, solutions are expensive and technically difficult. It works by isolating inside, causing inconvenience to tenants, and a reduction of space, and by isolating exterior facade, waterproofing and restoring decorative elements, but leaving a major unresolved problem: thermal bridges. Another alternative that offers the market is to do thermal insulation from outside. If this solution can solve thermal bridges, it does not give us the ability to retain the decorative elements.

Sto, by combining traditional techniques of reconstruction and the use of innovative materials (as primary materials tested for centuries: silicate) has obtained new decorative elements with some special characteristics. These moulds are complemented with our thermal insulation systems, without creating thermal bridges and improve,  building energy efficiency, getting both an aesthetic and decorative effect that enhances and ennobles the facade.
